China plans to build its first aircraft carrier - news agency HONG KONG, July 6 (RIA Novosti) - China is close to beginning construction of its first aircraft carrier to expand the operational and strategic capabilities of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), a Chinese news agency said Friday. KANWA News cited sources in the Chinese defense industry as saying that several companies had received contracts on the development of systems and components for the future aircraft carrier. "This indicates that the decision on construction of the aircraft carrier has been made, and its characteristics have been outlined," the agency said, adding that a shipbuilding company based in Shanghai could be chosen as the main project contractor. So far, Chinese shipyards have been building fast-attack missile patrol boats, dock landing ships, frigates and destroyers, many with stealthy, high-tech features common on Western warships. Although Beijing consistently denied media reports saying that China could build its first aircraft carrier as early as 2010, Chinese officials admitted in March that the country was conducting research in aircraft carrier technologies. Russia has long been offering China assistance in the development of its own aircraft carrier. Alexander Denisov, head of Russia's weapons procurement agency, said last year at Airshow China 2006 that such assistance would not violate international norms in the light of the EU embargo on exports of military equipment to China, following the repression of student demonstrations in Tiananmen Square in 1989. Regional media attention has recently been focused on the Varyag, an incomplete Russian carrier which was towed to China in 2002. China bought the ship, which lacked any electronic equipment and weaponry, at an auction in Ukraine and put in a PLAN dry-dock in Dalian. Although the Varyag arrived in a dilapidated condition, it was cleaned and painted in 2005, and experts believe the Chinese are seriously considering completing the ship. Russia has provided many of China's new ships, including the Sovremenny-class destroyers and Kilo-class diesel-electric submarines, and there are indications that China will continue to rely on Russian naval construction capabilities. Russia is currently not building any major surface or submarine warships for China, but it could sell China the Zubr large amphibious assault hovercraft, a large number of Kamov naval troop assault helicopters, and Beriev Be-200 turbofan-powered seaplanes, KANWA News said. Moscow might also provide aircraft for the future Chinese carrier. Rosoboronexport, Russia's state arms export monopoly, is reportedly in talks on the sale to China of about 50 Su-33 Naval Flanker ship-borne fighters, worth $2.5 billion. http://en.rian.ru/world/20070706/68460904.html |

Secrets of the new Russian aircraft carriers Few years ago new Russian aircraft carriers were a big guessing game for the foreign observers. There were reasonable questions regarding financial opportunities, technologies, depth of berths etc. Today there are absolutely different questions: what characteristics? Russia is building a new Navy and aircraft carriers are deemed as its integral part. Speaking with the representatives of the Russian media the Commander of the Russian Navy Vladimir Masorin said that today the state pays much more attention to its Navy. Now the main budget means allocated for the Navy are spend on constructing new ships and subs. However, the largest project to be started in the near future is aimed at creating in the next 20-30 years two aircraft carriers strike groups. Each group will have three aircraft carriers in the North and in the Far East. "One ship will be in the sea, the second will be ready to replace it and the third will be at the base", the Commander explained. In this way Russia is going to guarantee its security against the threats from the West and the East. Today US Navy plans to commission the 13th aircraft carrier. However, Russian military commanders emphasize that Russia is not going to compete in numbers. Vladimir Masorin considers that it is too costly to keep more than ten aircraft carriers even for such a state as Russia. At the same time Russia will not have military objectives which would require such a big aircraft carriers grouping. Independent military experts agree with this assumption. This is one of the reasons why Russia starts with costal infrastructure, starting in the Far East. For example, in the nearest future the state will build in Kamchatka a new base for surface ships and upgrade the infrastructure of the base of nuclear submarines. The Navy plans to gather all surface ships located in different places along Avachinskaya peninsular into one place and set up a new infrastructure there. Such a place was already determined. The works on improving the infrastructure of the base of nuclear subs in the closed city of Vilyuchinsk already started. The aim is to upgrade the infrastructure up to the requirements of the newest submarines (project 955 Borei). Vladimir Masorin publicly expressed hope that this base for the first time ever, including Soviet times, will have right anything that is necessary for the Navy. This project alone costs nine billions rubles. According to Vladimir Masorin the construction of the new aircraft carrier for the Russian Navy will begin after 2015. Before the end of this year the Navy together with the representatives of science and industry are to determine the parameters of the future ship. As of today the aircraft carrier program is divided into two stages: first is preservation and maintenance of the existing "Admiral Kuznetsov", the second is designing and constructing a new ship after 2015". However, the correspondent of PravdaRu attended the press conference of Alexander Burutin, military advisor to the President of Russia and the expected head of the United Shipbuilding Corporation. According to the details he voiced 2015 is not a fixed term. In certain conditions aircraft carrier(s) may appear earlier. Today this class of ships is not in the State Arms Program (SAP) before 2015. But it was unreservedly stated that with a political decision Russia is ready to build brand new aircraft carrier(s) for export or home Navy immediately. There are no technical uncertainties. If such a decision is taken, the ships all be built by Sevmash. There is no sense in considering other places as long as Sevmash is available. That was supposed to mean that theoretically there could be other shipyards. Today the parties concerned try to develop the Strategy of the Development of the Navy till 2040. It is certain that aircraft carriers will be there. However, it is not excluded that the project will start even earlier than 2015 in spite of the fact that aircraft carrier is not listed in the SAP. Subject to the respective political will this project will be formulated as an individual national ?purpose oriented federal program?. This will allow for going beyond the already developed SAP and also attracting not only the money from the military budget. This was a fundamental statement of absolutely principle importance. It was publicly voiced probably for the first time. De fact it means that Russia may decide to build the aircraft carriers tomorrow. And God knows what political will the next president will have. Speaking about technical characteristics it is already known that the new Russian aircraft carrier will not compete in size with the American ships. It will be a nuclear aircraft carrier with the displacement of bout 50 thousand tons with around 30 planes and helicopters. Vladimir Masorin assured that Russia will not build giants with 100-130 planes and helicopters on board as in the US. It goes without saying that Russia will suggest something outstanding and unusual. Serious projects like this for the sake of the ordinary ships are not started. By the way, Russian ?aviation carrying ships? have never been classic aircraft carriers, as their main strike weapons were missiles, not planes and helicopters. This remark of the Commander could be interpreted as a hint. However, it would be wrong to expect the new aircraft carriers too soon. Except for the coastal infrastructure such ships need support from smaller ships and subs. Naturally, before the aircraft carriers Russian shipyards will have to build enough support ships: rocket cruiser, several destroyers, frigates, submarines, ships of maintenance. Recently it has been also officially announced that before 2010 Russia will build in its territory the complex for training pilots of deck aircraft. The full-fledged training complex of the type NITKA which stayed in the Ukraine after the disintegration of the USSR will be constructed in the next two-three years. Russian Navy is not going to pay a lot of money to the Ukraine for leasing NITKA. At the same time recently Russia, Ukraine and India signed an agreement on joint using NITKA, now operated by the Ukrainian Air Force. http://english.pravda.ru/russia/history/94801-0/ |

Evo još malo o tihim dizel-električnim podmornicama Amur klase.
Russia currently tests a new submarine called Amur in the Baltic Sea. The NATO Navy is closely watching the test, and the more information the NATO command gets about the submarine and the test the gloomier it grows. The non-nuclear submarine of the Amur class is a fourth generation submarine that can deliver salvo missile attack at various targets. The level of its acoustic field is several times lower than it is registered with the world?s most noiseless submarines of the Kilo class. The submarine is equipped with a new generation radioelectronic arming. What is more, the construction of the submarine allows supplying it with special power installations with chemical generators that help considerably increase its submerged endurance and cruising range. Amur can operate in any part of the world ocean with the exception of areas covered with solid mass of ice, under any weather conditions, in shallow and deep waters. The Amur armament consists of ten vertical containers with cruise or anti-ship missiles together with missiles to hit surface targets. There are also four torpedo-tubes with multi-purpose torpedoes to deliver against a ship or above-water targets at short range. Amur can deliver a massive missile attack within at least two minutes. Because of the low noise that makes it hard to detect such submarines experts in the West call them ?the black hole in the ocean?. Chief designer of the project Yury Kormilitsyn said that the submarine was designed as an underwater hunter able to destroy any targets, surface battleships, transport ships or submarines, to deliver torpedo and missile attacks, to set mine barriers, and also to destroy targets with the help of soldier swimmers. http://english.pravda.ru/russia/politics/96504-1/ |

![]() Dobre vijesti.

Russian aircraft carrier Kuznetsov
Ruska mornarica trenutnobrojioko 60 podmornica ....
10ak strateških nuklearnih ... oko 30 nuklearnih napadajnih te oko 20 disel električnih .... MOSCOW, March 19 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Navy maintains a fleet of about 60 nuclear-powered and diesel-electric submarines, a senior Navy official said on Thursday. "These 60 vessels include 10 nuclear-powered strategic submarines, over 30 nuclear-powered attack submarines, diesel-electric submarines and special-purpose subs," the source said. Delta-IV and Delta-III class subs form the backbone of Russia's strategic submarine fleet. They each carry 16 ballistic missiles with multiple warheads, and feature advanced electronics and noise reduction. "The world's largest Typhoon-class submarines also remain in service with the Russian Navy," the official said. The Dmitry Donskoy submarine has been modernized as a test platform for Russia's new Bulava missile. Two other subs, the Arkhangelsk and the Severstal, remain in reserve at a naval base in Severodvinsk in north Russia. "They will most likely be modernized to carry new-generation sea-based cruise missiles to match the U.S. Ohio class submarines," he said. Russia has started mooring trials of the first Borey class nuclear-powered strategic submarine, which will be equipped with Bulava sea-based ballistic missiles. The Yury Dolgoruky submarine, built at the Sevmash plant in northern Russia, was taken out of dry dock in April 2007. The vessel is 170 meters (580 feet) long, has a hull diameter of 13 meters (42 feet), a crew of 107, including 55 officers, maximum depth of 450 meters (about 1,500 feet) and a submerged speed of about 29 knots. It can carry up to 16 ballistic missiles and torpedoes. Two other Borey class nuclear submarines, the Alexander Nevsky and the Vladimir Monomakh, are currently under construction at the Sevmash shipyard and are expected to be completed in 2009 and 2011. Russia is planning to build a total of eight submarines of this class by 2015. Russia's nuclear-powered attack submarine fleet comprises vessels of the Oscar II and Akula class. Each sub is equipped with 24 SS-N-19 Shipwreck long-range anti-ship cruise missiles. A fourth-generation Graney class nuclear-powered attack submarine will be delivered to the Russian Navy in 2010-2011. The Severodvinsk submarine combines the ability to launch a variety of long-range cruise missiles (up to 3,100 miles) with nuclear warheads, and effectively engage hostile submarines and surface warships. "The tests of the cruise missile for the submarine are under way," the source said. Diesel-electric submarines in the Russian Navy are represented by Kilo class vessels. They will be gradually replaced by Project 667 Lada class submarines. The sub features a new anti-sonar coating for its hull, an extended cruising range, and advanced anti-ship and anti-submarine weaponry, including Club-S cruise missile systems. The first submarine of the Lada class, named the St. Petersburg, is undergoing sea trials and may enter service with the Russian Navy this year. A second Lada class submarine, the Kronshtadt, which is the first in the production series, is also being built at St. Petersburg's Admiralty Shipyards and will be commissioned in 2009. A third submarine, whose keel was laid in November 2006, is named after a city associated with Russian naval glory - Sevastopol - and is expected to be launched in 2010. The source also said the Russian Navy has several 'special purpose' submarines designed for testing of new technologies and weaponry. Some open sources earlier reported the existence of Project 20120 B-90 Sarov diesel-electric submarine, which has a nuclear reactor as a supplementary power generator. The vessel was commissioned in 2007 and according to some reports may be used by Russia's Northern Fleet as a spy vessel in northern waters. ARKHANGELSK, March 19 (Itar-Tass) -- The Sevmash military shipyard in Severodvinsk is about to lay down a new fourth-generation submarine, chief press officer of the shipyard Mikhail Starozhilov told Itar-Tass on Thursday, March 19, Russia’s Submariner Day. He also noted a leading fourth-generation nuclear-powered, missile-carrying submarine “Yuri Dolgorukiy” (Project 955) is passing mooring exercises at the shipyard and is being prepared for a trial sea voyage. “The Yuri Dolgorukiy is to be handed over to the Navy in 2009,” Starozhilov said. Other submarines of this project – Alexander Nevsky and Vladimir Monomakh - are under construction. Apart from the newest strategic missile carriers under a new project the shipyard keeps building multi-purpose nuclear submarines. The Navy expects to put into service a leading multi-purpose nuclear submarine “Severodvinsk” under Project 885 in 2010-2011. Sevmash is the only Russian shipyard that launched the serial construction of nuclear submarines. It passed the first nuclear submarine to the Navy on December 17, 1958. During the Cold War the shipyard built 5 nuclear-powered underwater missile carriers a year. All in all, 129 nuclear submarines were built. |
